While my main writing goal is to publish a Young Adult novel, I also enjoy the room for practice and experimentation that short stories allow. I spent my summer entering a few of the short stories I’ve been working on to writing contests and submitting others for publication.
Last week, the new online literary journal The Fantastic Other announced the results of its first flash fiction contest. My speculative piece “The World’s Only Things-From-Dreams Museum” placed third. It’s now live on the journal’s site, making it my first official short story publication!
As a flash fiction, the story had to be short, so I mainly wanted to focus on making the setting come alive. It’s set in a roadside attraction reminiscent of Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. You can read it here!
